Lampung, 13–15 September 2024 — The Mutuara Hijau Farmer Group (KTH Mutuara Hijau) in Pasir Sakti District, East Lampung Regency, recently completed an intensive three-day Training on Organizational and Human Resource Management. The activity aimed to strengthen the group’s capacity in organizational principles, strategic planning, and effective human resource management to achieve its shared goals.
The training was designed to enhance the group’s internal structure and leadership, which is critical for the long-term sustainability of their collaborative resource management efforts.
Focus on Leadership and Collaborative Management
The comprehensive curriculum was delivered across three main sessions:
- Organizational Pre-Management: This focused on foundational principles like division of work, authority, responsibility, and effective leadership to establish clear roles and operational efficiency.
- Strategic Management: Participants engaged with theories on strategic planning and complex problem-solving, discussing strategies to enhance member engagement and build capacity through dialogue and conflict resolution.
- Sustainable Natural Resource Management (NRM): The final session highlighted the social role of justice, conflict management, and collaborative strategies in NRM. Interactive quizzes and discussions allowed participants to review and apply their learning to the context of the Mutuara Hijau Group’s operational effectiveness.

The training was attended by 17 members of KTH Mutiara Hijau, consisting of 8 men and 9 women, underscoring the importance of inclusive participation in leadership development.
The training successfully enhanced participants’ understanding of organizational principles, strategic planning, and effective human resource management. Pre- and post-test scores showed a positive leap, indicating a strong foundation for understanding the principles of organizational and human resource management within the context of the forest farmer group.
However, the report noted persistent challenges related to members’ attitudes, with some showing limited active participation. This highlights a need to continually reinforce a mindset of participation and shared ownership.
The training ultimately contributed to:
- Strengthening the group’s institutional framework by creating a five-year strategic plan and formalizing the Articles of Association and Bylaws (AD/ART).
- Enhancing understanding of organizational dynamics and the division of tasks among members.
- Reinforcing the foundation for the group’s future strength and sustainability.
The Path Forward: Sustaining Capacity and Impact
To ensure the long-term impact of this training, the facilitators recommended key action items:
- Further Mentoring and Monitoring: Continued guidance is recommended to strengthen the institutional framework and ensure the group effectively utilizes the newly formalized AD/ART.
- Expert Support: Providing expertise in institutional management and finance will encourage the group’s successful framework implementation.
- Inclusive Training on Use of Funds: Future programs must ensure training on funding is delivered vertically and horizontally, ensuring all group members understand their roles and responsibilities in the financial outcomes of the programs.
This training marks a pivotal step for the Mutuara Hijau Farmer Group in developing a strong, accountable, and effective internal structure, enabling them to achieve the vision and mission of sustainable natural resource management in their region.
